How about a place where healing meets history? That’s Hospital Carlos III. It stands here as a testament to Madrid’s dedication to public health.

The Hospital Carlos III has a rich past. It wasn’t always a single entity. In 1990, three hospitals merged. They were Hospital del Rey, Hospital Victoria Eugenia, and Hospital Infante Don Felipe. This fusion created the Centro Nacional de Investigación Clínica y Medicina Preventiva.

Initially, it was under the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. This institute belongs to the Ministerio de Sanidad y Consumo. In 1995, INSALUD took over management. It became Hospital Carlos III. It supported the specialized care network in Madrid.

In 2003, control shifted again. The Comunidad de Madrid took charge. Since November 22, 2013, it is part of the Hospital Universitario La Paz.

Hospital Carlos III is known for its expertise. It excels in several medical areas. These include the Unidad de Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrófica and the Unidad de Enfermedades Tropicales y del Viajero. It is also renowned for treating infectious diseases.

In 2014, the hospital played a crucial role. It managed cases of Ebola virus disease. Brother Miguel Pajares, infected while volunteering in Liberia, was treated here. Sadly, he died in August 2014. Brother Manuel García Viejo, also infected in Sierra Leone, received treatment here too. He passed away in September 2014. María Teresa Romero Ramos, a nursing assistant, contracted Ebola. She was treated at Hospital Carlos III as well.

Today, Hospital Carlos III continues to serve Madrid. It provides essential medical services. It stands as a beacon of health. It also acts as a center for medical knowledge. It contributes significantly to the well-being of the community. The Hospital Carlos III is a place where medical advancements meet compassionate care.
