In December 2019, Huangtu Town was abolished and its administrative area was placed under the jurisdiction of Hong’an Town. Hong’an Town, located in the Jintang county of Chengdu, is a place of ancient history and captivating stories. Although a relatively small town, Hong’an Town has become a cultural focal point. The town’s history is linked to the history of the region. The Chengdu plain, where Hong’an Town resides, is known as the “Land of Abundance” for its fertile soil, favorable climate, and the remarkable Dujiangyan Irrigation System. You might not believe it, but over 2,000 years ago, the region was a separate ancient bronze-wielding culture, known as Shu, which was conquered by the Qin dynasty in 316 BC. After the fall of the Han Dynasty, the Shu, later known as Shu Han, had its capital in Chengdu. In the 10th century, the second king of the Later Shu dynasty ordered the planting of Hibiscus flowers around the city wall. From this, the city of Chengdu got its famous nickname, the “Hibiscus City”. Today, Hong’an Town, with its rich past and its modern-day charm, is part of the vibrant cultural tapestry of Chengdu. The town is a great example of how history and modernity intertwine in the city to create an experience for visitors and locals alike.
