Beneath the California sun lies Home of Peace Memorial Park. It’s more than just a cemetery. It’s a story whispered by the stones. A story of Hollywood’s golden age, woven into the fabric of Los Angeles. Home of Peace isn’t the first Jewish cemetery in Los Angeles. Originally, in 1853, the community buried their loved ones in Chavez Ravine. Imagine that, the final resting place near where Dodger Stadium now stands. But by 1901, Kaspare Cohn saw the need for a larger space. He generously donated 30 acres of land, and between 1902 and 1910, the remains from Chavez Ravine were carefully moved to their new home at Home of Peace. Here, under these very grounds, rest not only everyday people but also the giants of Hollywood’s golden age. The names etched on these stones read like a who’s who of the entertainment industry. Carl Laemmle, the visionary behind Universal Pictures, rests here. He pioneered the “star” system that shaped Hollywood as we know it. The Warner brothers, Harry, Jack, and Sam, lie here too. Their studio, Warner Brothers, gave us countless iconic films. And then there’s Louis B. Mayer, a founder of MGM, the studio that defined Hollywood glamour. Their legacies, and those of many other actors, writers, directors, and composers, are preserved within the grounds of Home of Peace Memorial Park. These aren’t just graves. They’re monuments to the men and women who built the dream factory, brick by brick, film by film. Take a moment to reflect on their contributions. The movies we love, the stars we admire, all have roots here, at Home of Peace Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
