“A castle fit for a Holzschuher,” you might think, gazing upon this grand estate. And you wouldn’t be wrong. This, my friends, is the Holzschuher-Schlösschen Almoshof. It stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Holzschuher family, one of Nuremberg’s oldest and most influential patrician families. The Holzschuhers, their name echoing through the centuries, first planted their roots in this very city back in the 13th century. Their trade? The lucrative business of Flemish cloth, which brought them great wealth and influence. The Holzschuher-Schlösschen Almoshof, once their country seat, has seen its fair share of history. The year 1552 brought the ravages of the Second Margrave War, leaving the original structure in ruins. But like a phoenix from the ashes, the Holzschuhers rebuilt their beloved Schlösschen just a few years later, transforming it into the grand Baroque manor you see today. The Holzschuher family held onto their cherished Almoshof until 1941, when it was sold to the city of Nuremberg. A curious twist of fate led to its occupation by the infamous “Wehrsportgruppe Hoffmann” in the 1970s. Thankfully, the city reclaimed the Schlösschen, eventually transforming it into a vibrant community center known as the Kulturladen Schloss Almoshof. Today, it’s a place where art thrives, stories are told, and the echoes of the Holzschuher legacy continue to resonate.
