Organized in a garage. That’s how the story of Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church began. Today we stand before a testament to faith and community. Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church started with humble beginnings and a vision.
The church’s history dates back to March 8, 1972. It began in a double-car garage in Houston’s Sunnyside area. Richard Jewel Rose was called to be the church’s first pastor. Eight people formed the church’s original membership.
From that garage, Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church moved to a storefront on Stassen. This was still in Sunnyside. The church experienced significant growth there. After about a year and a half a fire in May 1973 forced the church to relocate. The new location was Pastor Rose’s home.
In May 1974 Holy Trinity moved again. This time it was to a storefront at 14317 South Post Oak. Worship continued there until July 1979. Then the church purchased property at 14513 South Post Oak. This site had previously been a liquor store. About four years later the building was remodeled. A sanctuary was built. God blessed the church there. Eventually, Holy Trinity moved into its current sanctuary which is on the same campus.
Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church is active in the community. They offer CPR and AED classes. These classes are free. This reflects their commitment to serving others. The church also supports youth and families. The HTC Youth Center is associated with Holy Trinity. It focuses on mentoring and positive activities. The aim is to reduce youth suicide and homicide rates.
Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church is more than just a building. It is a place of worship, community and service. It is a place where people come together. They share their faith and support one another. The church’s journey from a garage to its present sanctuary is a story of faith, resilience, and commitment. It is a story still unfolding.
