Ninety years ago a black woman evangelist started it all. This is the Holy Trinity Church of God and Christ. It began with a simple Sunday school in a tent. Then a drugstore. Then a Baptist church building on Bishop Street. The church grew. It was truly remarkable.
The congregation’s vision expanded. They built a Bible Institute. It trained young men and women for ministry. It later became Gulf Coast Bible College. Eventually it moved to Oklahoma City. It was called Mid-America Bible College.
In 1975 the Holy Trinity Church of God and Christ moved to its current location. This was then the outer border of Northwest Houston. It was quite a journey. The church continued to grow. They started a daycare called Wee Care Day Care in 1977.
The Holy Trinity Church of God and Christ is part of a larger movement. It emphasizes unity and holy living. There are no formal memberships. It is based on personal conversion. The church values baptism immersion the Lord’s supper and foot washing.
