Remember that fateful day in 1986? The Holy Trinity Church in Montreal a vibrant hub of the Greek community for years was consumed by flames. An article in the Journal de Montreal described the scene a devastating loss. One of the city’s most beautiful churches was gone. Irreplaceable artwork was destroyed. The Holy Trinity Church was located at 8 Sherbrooke Street West.

The Holy Trinity Church wasn’t just a building. It was a heart of the community. It held countless memories prayers and celebrations. Its loss deeply affected Montreal’s Greek community. The building’s location is now the site of Hotel 10.

After the fire the city debated the future of the site. Many wanted the church rebuilt. Others proposed an office building. Finally a compromise was reached. The original structure would be preserved. This led to the creation of Hotel 10 a modern structure incorporating elements of the old church.

The adjacent Godin building built in 1915 in the Art Nouveau style stands as a testament to Montreal’s architectural heritage. Initially intended as a house it later housed artists such as Du00e9du00e9 Fortin and Les Colocs. This building too was later incorporated into the Hotel 10 complex.

The story of the Holy Trinity Church is not just about a building lost to fire. It’s a story of loss resilience and adaptation. The memory of the Holy Trinity Church lives on in the heart of Hotel 10 a unique blend of the old and new. It reminds us that even in the face of tragedy beauty and community can endure. The legacy of the Holy Trinity Church continues to shape Montreal’s identity even if the building itself is no longer standing.
