Let’s step back to 1991 when Holy Trinity AME Church was founded. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Dixon opened their Lancaster home. They wanted to establish a place of worship. This initial act of faith was pivotal. Margaret Manning Maurice McGowan and others joined them. They laid the foundation for the church’s future.

Around the same time St. John AME Church had already been founded in 1956. First AME Church of Palmdale followed in 1958. These churches grew independently nurturing their congregations.

Holy Trinity AME Church first worshipped in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Pastor Joseph Nixon guided the congregation. Later they moved to 408 Palmdale Blvd. Pastors Benjamin Hollins and Gayle Davis Culp led them.

In an interesting turn of events Holy Trinity AME Church found a temporary home. They moved into First AME’s building in Lake Los Angeles. Pastor Mary Jamerson Polk welcomed them.

A significant change occurred in September 2004. Bishop John R. Bryant approved a merger. St. John AME Church and Holy Trinity AME Church united. They began worshipping together in the Sun Village church. Reverend Melanie J. Mays became their leader.

The African Methodist Episcopal Church itself has a unique story. It originated from sociological and theological differences. It was the first major religious denomination in the Western World. It rejected interpretations that demeaned people of African descent.

The AME Church’s motto encapsulates its core values. “God Our Father Christ Our Redeemer the Holy Spirit Our Comforter Humankind Our Family.” The church’s mission is to serve the spiritual emotional and physical needs of all people. It spreads Christ’s gospel through both words and actions. The AME Church seeks to save the lost and serve the needy. This echoes the original Free African Society.

Today Holy Trinity AME Church stands as a testament to vision determination and faith. It embodies the spirit of its founders. It continues to serve its community.
