“Ever since 1920…” That’s how long Holy Name Catholic Church has stood as a pillar in Houston’s Northside. Holy Name Catholic Church has served as a community of faith. It has done so for over 90 years. Actually it is now more than 100 years.

In 2020, Holy Name Catholic Church marked its 100th anniversary. The celebration included virtual Masses in English and Spanish. Pandemic measures prevented a full capacity gathering. The church still connected with its community through live streaming. Former parishioners, students, and friends joined in.
Holy Name Church has seen many changes. Once home to German-American and Italian-American immigrants, it has transformed. Revitalization is bringing a diverse and intercultural community. Despite being a small parish, it embodies the spirit of community.
Lifelong members, Francisco and Martha Rodriguez, have been part of Holy Name Catholic Church for over 64 years. They consider the parish their second home. They raised their children here. They grew spiritually within these walls. Freddy and Juanita Sandoval have been members for over 24 years. The community strengthened their family relationship.
February 16th brought one of the most devastating events. A fire struck the 100-year-old church during the big freeze. Houston firefighters faced decreased water pressure and ruptured pipes. The church was spared major damage. The parish rectory, garage, and priest’s living quarters suffered total losses. The community rallied. A fundraising goal of $200,000 was set to rebuild Holy Name Catholic Church.
