Seeking a deeper connection with their faith, Angel and Virginia Andino found solace at Holy Gate Evangelical Church. This wasn’t their initial spiritual home. They had spent two years attending Catholic services, but something was missing. They yearned for a more personal, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ. Holy Gate Evangelical Church, nestled in La Crescenta, offered precisely that. It’s a place where the Holy Spirit leads, not just tradition. Holy Gate Evangelical Church isn’t just a local church. It has a global impact. With four branches worldwide, the church actively supports international aid and strengthens the Christian community across borders. Established in Montrose in 1998 with a mere eight members, Holy Gate Evangelical Church has grown significantly, now boasting a congregation of nearly 150. This expansion is largely attributed to the leadership of Reverend Kwang Kim, the head pastor. He also serves as the president of the Korean Evangelical Denomination, a testament to his influence and dedication. Reverend Kim’s vision extends beyond La Crescenta. Touched by the poverty he witnessed in India, he spearheaded the establishment of two churches there, providing financial support to the pastors. He envisions building even more churches, with the help of the Montrose congregation. Holy Gate Evangelical Church acts as the mother church, nurturing and supporting these global endeavors. They are also working on expanding into Mexico and another location within the United States. Reverend Kim’s leadership style is deeply personal. Despite his numerous responsibilities, he makes an effort to connect with each member of his congregation. Every year, accompanied by deacons and elders, he visits every household in the congregation to pray and worship together. Beyond spiritual guidance, Holy Gate Evangelical Church plays an active role in the community. The church offers a weekday childcare program for elementary students. This program provides transportation, a safe space to study, and opportunities for play. Holy Gate Evangelical Church embraces diversity. Although traditionally a Korean ethnic church, it welcomes people of all backgrounds.
