Did you know that Holy Bible Way Baptist Church started in a rented space for just $10 a week? Holy Bible Way Baptist Church in Houston Texas has a rich history. It began as Bibleway Missionary Baptist Church in 1963. The first service was held on Easter Sunday. Only five members attended that very first service. These were Sis Martha Brown Freddie and Steve Mitchell and Bro and Sis Willie and Ida Scott. Pastor Brown’s wife Martha was a singer. She belonged to a group called the Gloston Aires. It was at one of their rehearsals that the church got its name Bibleway. Betty Shields a musician suggested the name.

The early years were challenging. The church struggled to pay the rent and utilities. Pastor Brown often helped cover the costs. The congregation persevered. They purchased their first building in 1968 for $7500. The church paid off this mortgage by 1974. A van was purchased the following year. This demonstrates the growing congregation’s dedication and faith. They later moved to a larger location at 1415 Cushing Street. This happened in 1979. This move was another major step forward for the growing church.

Holy Bible Way Baptist Church continued to flourish. It experienced further growth. The congregation expanded its facilities. They purchased additional property for parking in 1981.
