Wanna see a windmill in Berlin? Not many expect to find windmills here. Yet, in the mid-19th century, around 150 windmills dotted Berlin and its surrounding villages. Now part of the city, only a handful remain. Among these is the Holländermühle Foline.

This small octagonal gallery windmill stands in Berlin Kreuzberg. Built in 1885, the Holländermühle Foline is a grist mill. Today, it resides within the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin. The Holländermühle Foline is wind-driven. It occasionally whirs back to life.

In the early 1980s, the DDR decided to sell the Holländermühle Foline. It aimed to secure foreign currency. The buyer was the Museum für Verkehr und Technik in Kreuzberg. This museum is now the Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin.

The Holländermühle Foline is one of eight remaining windmills in Berlin. Five are Dutch windmills. Three are post windmills. All are protected as historical monuments. This Kreuzberg landmark is open for daily visits.

Two windmills call the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin home. One is the Bohnsdorfer Bockwindmühle. The other is our Holländermühle Foline. The Holländermühle Foline even came all the way from East Frisia.

The Technik Museum Berlin is a museum for everyone. Founded in 1982, it attracts over 700,000 visitors annually. For visitor inquiries about the Holländermühle Foline, contact the Technik Museum Berlin. The email address is info@sdtb.de.
