Did Friedrich Wilhelm I ever imagine his Dutch Quarter would become “Little Amsterdam”? He dreamed of Holland in Prussia. He yearned for the ingenuity and economic prowess of the Dutch. Here in the heart of Potsdam, the Holländisches Viertel stands as a testament to that dream. This picturesque neighborhood, with its 134 charming brick houses, is a must-see. The Holländisches Viertel is more than just a collection of houses. It’s a living, breathing piece of history. Built between 1733 and 1742, it was designed to lure skilled Dutch craftsmen to Potsdam. The king offered homes, tax breaks, and even guaranteed profits. The Holländisches Viertel, with its four squares divided by Mittelstrasse and Benkertstrasse, is a feast for the eyes.
