Nestled within Gazi University’s central campus in Ankara, the Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Mosque stands as a testament to faith and perseverance. A beacon for students and faculty alike, the Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Mosque’s journey to completion is a story in itself. Construction began years ago behind the Technology Faculty but was stalled for quite some time. Last year, construction resumed with renewed vigor. The mosque was finally inaugurated in a grand ceremony on April 5th, 2024, attended by dignitaries, academics, and members of the community. The opening coincided with the last days of Ramadan and the revered Kadir Gecesi, making the occasion even more auspicious. The Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Mosque serves as a vital spiritual center on campus, providing a place for prayer and reflection. The inauguration ceremony was a vibrant celebration. It included a mesmerizing performance by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mehteran Band. Speeches highlighted the mosque’s significance and the collaborative efforts that led to its completion. Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız expressed gratitude to everyone involved, especially former Rector Prof. Dr. Rıza Ayhan, who initially conceived the idea. Ankara Mufti Dr. Hasan Çınar emphasized the meaningful choice of naming the mosque after Hoca Ahmet Yesevi, a revered Sufi figure. The ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting and a tour of the newly opened Hoca Ahmet Yesevi Mosque. The festivities continued with an iftar program at the Gazi Culture Center. Attendees also enjoyed a special exhibition dedicated to Hoca Ahmet Yesevi and Anatolian luminaries. The iftar program featured a captivating semazen performance by the Ankara Mevlana Education, Culture, and Sema Association. Dr. Hakan Bayraktar and TRT Saz Masters provided a delightful musical interlude.
