Dr Ho Van Hue a true patriot was born in 1917. He hailed from Rach Kien in present-day Can Duoc District Long An Province. His family were traditional medicine practitioners. After graduating from high school his brother sent him to Hanoi for further education.

In Hanoi Ho Van Hue actively participated in student movements. He was deeply involved in nationalist causes. He challenged French colonial rule and its collaborators. He even organized medical examinations and provided medicine to the poor. He also secretly taught Vietnamese people about their country.

In 1944 after graduating from Hanoi Medical School he returned south. He worked at the Quang Loi rubber plantation hospital in Song Be Province. The August Revolution brought independence. He was elected chairman of the Quang Loi People’s Committee. He then joined the resistance against the French. He served in various military zones across South Vietnam.

In the war zones he built up a medical network. He trained medical personnel to help the soldiers. This was crucial for fighting disease and injury. He was repeatedly commended for his tireless work. His leadership was essential. He helped create the Medical Department of Zone 7. The government appointed him Chief Medical Officer of Zone 7.

After the 1954 Geneva Accords he moved north. He became a cadre of the General Staff Medical Department. He trained many medical personnel for the war effort. His insightful approach was recognized widely. His contributions were instrumental. He helped train hundreds of highly skilled medical professionals. These professionals were vital to the war effort.

In early 1964 he was sent back to the southern war zone. He was tasked with the critical job of navigating the Ho Chi Minh Trail. He was navigating the trail during intense bombing campaigns. He also served as Chief of the Southern Military Region Medical Department. He received the rank of Major General in the People’s Army of Vietnam.

He held positions like Minister of Health. He also served as Deputy Head of the Southern Military Region’s Medical Department. After the liberation of South Vietnam he worked to improve healthcare. He fought against widespread malaria and the effects of Agent Orange. He passed away on April 7 1976 at the age of 59. His contributions remain legendary. The bust pays homage to his dedication. His legacy continues to inspire. He truly deserves this honour. This bust is a reminder of his sacrifice and service. Let’s remember his remarkable life.
