Deep in the heart of San Antonio, the Hispanic Baptist Seminary stands as a testament to faith and perseverance. The Hispanic Baptist Seminary has witnessed decades of dedication to theological education and ministry. Originally founded in 1947 as the Mexican Baptist Training School, the Hispanic Baptist Seminary’s initial mission was to train Mexican-American pastors and church workers. The school was the brainchild of missionary Paul J. Siebenmann and the San Antonio Baptist Association. The early years saw classes held in various local churches, reflecting the community’s shared commitment to the seminary’s success. In 1950, the seminary found a more permanent home at West Martin and North Leona streets. This marked a significant step in its growth and development. Later, a new campus was established on South PanAm Expressway in 1964. Over the years, the Hispanic Baptist Seminary has undergone several name changes, reflecting its evolving relationship with different Baptist organizations. It was known as the Mexican Baptist Bible Institute, the Hispanic Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Hispanic Baptist Theological School before adopting its current name, Baptist University of the Americas, in 2003. Despite these changes, the institution’s core mission has remained constant: to provide quality theological education rooted in the Baptist tradition. Today, the Baptist University of the Americas, formerly known as the Hispanic Baptist Seminary, continues to serve a diverse student body. It offers a range of programs, from undergraduate degrees to graduate studies, equipping students for ministry and leadership roles within the church and beyond.
