Imagine a world without war. That’s precisely what the organizers of Hindustan Park Sarbojanin imagined for their Durga Puja.

Hindustan Park Sarbojanin is known for its unique Durga Puja celebrations. Each year, they choose a theme that reflects contemporary issues. This year, they envisioned world peace. The inspiration came from the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine.

Sancharika Sarkar, an organizer, said they created a world where people only experience peace. Like the natural cycle of seasons, their Durga Puja imagines the end of war and the arrival of peace.

The pandal is divided into two halves to show the transition from war to peace. When visitors enter, they first see elements of war. There are watchtowers, weapons, and conflict machinery. As they move closer to the idol, the contrast becomes clear. Symbolism shifts to peace, love, and happiness.

Even Goddess Durga has been reimagined. Instead of her usual combative figure, she appears peaceful. The Ashura is peacefully surrendering to her. The Goddess’s hands are in the shapes of Indian classical dance mudras. The message is a call to remember our inherent humanity amidst economic and political wars.

The Hindustan Park Sarbojanin Durga Puja committee also has equal representation of men and women in important roles. Women are slightly more in number.
