“Built on Jesus – the cornerstone – AD 1991”. That inscription, etched into the foundation stone of Hills Church, tells only a fraction of the story. This church, nestled in the heart of Everton Hills, has a history as vibrant and dynamic as the community it serves. It all began, surprisingly, not here but on the banks of the Burnett River. It was Easter 1981 when a group of faithful families from Ferny Hills gathered with Reverend Don Hardgrave, planting the seeds of what would become Hills Church. Their first service wasn’t in a grand cathedral, but a rented space from the Baptist Church right here on Queens Road. Imagine their faith and determination, purchasing the property in May 1982! The congregation blossomed under Pastor Phil and Leslie McCallum, who arrived in 1986. By 1989, they had outgrown their home and temporarily moved services to the McDowall State School. But this wasn’t the end. They embarked on a leap of faith, constructing a new auditorium behind the existing building. This new space, with seating for 450 people, became a testament to their dedication. Finally, on December 12, 1992, the new Hills Church, as we know it, opened its doors, a beacon of faith and community spirit.
