The school was named after Lockhart Valentine “L.V.” Hightower, a former principal who championed education within the district and served as an American football coach for Sugar Land High School. In 2006, Hightower was lauded as the most innovative of the Fort Bend Independent School District’s seven schools for its unique block scheduling.
