Did the towering presence of Highlands Presbyterian Church always grace this hilltop? No. Our story begins in 1927 with a farmer named Gerhardt Van der Byl. He decided to retire to the Cape Province, selling his farm, Welmoed, to the Salisbury Real Estate Co. This company, with its Scottish founders, christened the land “Highlands,” a nod to both its elevated position and their heritage. Highlands Presbyterian Church, a reflection of those Scottish roots, stands as a testament to this history. The church is located on Enterprise Road in Highlands, Harare. You can reach them at info@highlandspresby.org or by phone at (+263 4) 496213/495154/481810. Their motto, “To know Christ and make him known,” resonates within their walls. In February 2025, the church hosted a women’s gathering themed “Grace Revealed.” The event, held in the beautifully decorated Atrium and sanctuary, featured teachings, hymn singing, and fellowship. The women even partnered with Canton Kids Club, raising over $300 to support their cause. Highlands Presbyterian Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub of community and faith, echoing the spirit of the Scottish settlers who first named this land.
