Picture a haven of tranquility nestled on four and a half wooded acres. This is High Ridge House. High Ridge House. It overlooks the Hudson River a mere twenty minutes from Manhattan’s hustle. This wasn’t always its location.

High Ridge House began in 1944. A man deeply grateful for a Christian Science healing established a rest and nursing home for Christian Scientists in New York. A small group formed. They incorporated in 1947. They bought a building on East 71st Street. This was the Manhattan Sanatorium. Renovations were done. The first patient arrived in 1949.

By 1957 city regulations forced a move. A 17-room house 50 miles away in Bedford Hills became High Ridge House. It held only 10 patients. It proved too small. High Ridge House needed a larger facility.

The search for a new location led them to Riverdale in The Bronx. In 1967 they purchased the current property. Construction of the 30-room facility began in 1970. High Ridge House opened its doors. Seven Christian Science nurses cared for five patients.

High Ridge House is more than a building. It’s an embodiment of the belief that God cares for all. This spiritual idea is the foundation of High Ridge House. Today High Ridge House continues its mission. It provides Christian Science nursing care in Riverdale and even in homes across metropolitan New York. It also offers rest and study services. They provide spiritual renewal and training for those who want to care for others. High Ridge House remains a beacon of spiritual healing. A haven of soul.
