High Point Overlook is a must-see stop. It is located less than 5 miles into Red Rock Canyon’s scenic loop. You won’t want to miss this quick stop.
Resting at 4780 feet, High Point Overlook is the highest point you can drive to in the park. Stretch your legs and snap some photos. Soak in the scenery at this favorite stop.
Many visitors consider this one of the best vantages in Red Rock Canyon. It is perfect for a quick stop on your 1-day tour.
From here you can see sweeping views of the entire Red Rock Canyon valley. The parking area is small but the views are huge. You will find the overlook on the left side of the scenic loop.
Look northeast to see Turtlehead Peak. To the east, you’ll spot the Calico Hills. The Rainbow Wilderness lies to the southwest.
Notable landmarks surround High Point Overlook. To the north, see the La Madre Mountains. Look northwest for the White Rock Hills. Mount Wilson and Bridge Mountain are southwest. Blue Diamond is to the southeast.
Remember a fee is required to enter Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. You’ll need a day pass or an America the Beautiful Pass. Reservations are required during the high season, from October 1 to May 31. Alternatively, enter the park before 8 a.m. to avoid reservations.
Obey the speed limit and watch for bikers while driving the scenic loop. The parking lot appears quickly as you come around a corner.
The High Point Overlook parking lot has only 17 spots. There are also two large vehicle spots for campers or tour buses. The lot fills up quickly on weekends. However, most people don’t stay long, so be patient.

There is no shade or picnic benches here at High Point Overlook. For a picnic area, continue down the scenic loop drive to the Willows Spring picnic area. While there, check out the Petroglyph Wall Trail. It is a short 0.2-mile round trip hike.
The Scenic Loop Road High Point Overlook is the place to stop. It is located about 4.7 miles around the 13-mile Scenic Loop Road. At 4780 feet, this really is the highest point on the road.
The views to the south are spectacular. Facing downhill, Turtlehead Peak towers to the left. Below Turtlehead are the red-and-white sandstone Calico Hills. More due south is Blue Diamond Hill. To the right are the Wilson Cliffs, the grand Red Rock escarpment.
Don’t forget to turn around and look north. The limestone La Madre Mountain Range towers above the entire landscape.
