Time-travel back to the 15th century. That is where the story of Herrenhaus Schlauroth begins. This manor house, located in Schlauroth, a district of Görlitz, has seen centuries pass.

The Rittergut, or knight’s estate, was first documented in 1533. But its origins trace back even further. Initially, it belonged to well-to-do citizens. Jakob Rösler was one of them. In 1546, he was ennobled. He then became known as Jakob von der Rosen.

The Herrenhaus Schlauroth itself arose in the 17th century. It was a time of change and growth. Later, in 1818, Carl Friedrich von Ludewig acquired the estate. The building underwent its last major renovations in 1908. At that time, the Raiffeisen Cooperative owned the Rittergut. They had purchased it from a heavily indebted owner.

Alfred Brandenstein became the owner in 1913. After him, a Mr. Schoppe took over. Following Schoppe’s death, his widow Marie-Luise Schoppe, along with her second husband Hellmuth Müller, managed the Schlauroth estate. Together, they paid off the debts that burdened the Herrenhaus.

After 1945, significant changes occurred. Hellmuth Müller was dispossessed. The Herrenhaus Schlauroth served initially as accommodation for refugees and later as a residential building. The surrounding farm buildings and land were distributed to new farmers. Sadly, the stables and barns fell into disrepair. They were torn down in the 1960s.

The Herrenhaus Schlauroth remained inhabited until 2005. In 2013, a new owner stepped in.

Today, the Herrenhaus stands empty. It needs extensive renovation. There were plans for the city of Görlitz to sell it in 2023. However, none of the potential buyers could convince the city of their plans.

Despite its current desolation, the Herrenhaus Schlauroth is recognized as a cultural monument. It features a Renaissance staircase tower. The tower was replaced in the 18th century with an interior staircase. Around 1908, this staircase was remodeled in the Jugendstil style. Inside, the manor house boasts beautiful baroque plaster mirrors in the rooms and stairwell.

The estate also includes a large barn. It is part of the western farmyard. Additionally, there is a small park with a surrounding wall to the east of the Herrenhaus Schlauroth.

Although in need of repair, the Herrenhaus Schlauroth remains a significant landmark. It is a testament to the history of Schlauroth and the families who shaped it.
