In 1839, a beacon of hope was ignited in Quillán, France. This beacon was the Hermanas del Ángel de la Guarda. The Hermanas del Ángel de la Guarda, also known as the Sisters of the Guardian Angel, was founded by Father Luis Antonio Ormières and Mother San Pascual. Their primary mission, as stated by the congregation itself, is “to form true disciples of Christ”. The Hermanas del Ángel de la Guarda chose their name carefully. It reflects their core values and guides their work. They strive to emulate guardian angels. They aim to be ever ready to serve and spread God’s word, much like the angels described in scripture. The sisters are known for their evangelical simplicity. This means they seek God and his kingdom above all else. They hold a humble faith and strive to be approachable, especially to the less fortunate. Transparency, humility, and a righteous heart are their guiding principles. The Hermanas del Ángel de la Guarda’s presence extends to Madrid. Here, they maintain several houses. These include their General Curia, a novitiate, schools, a community house for elderly sisters, and various community centers throughout the city, including locations in Carabanchel, Ciudad Pegaso, and near the Virgen de la Paloma church. While education remains a key focus in their two Madrid schools, the sisters also dedicate themselves to other vital community work. They help immigrants, contribute to Cáritas soup kitchens, visit the sick, and actively participate in parish missions. In 2023, the Hermanas del Ángel de la Guarda celebrated a significant milestone. Their founder, Father Luis Ormières, was beatified in Oviedo Cathedral. This joyous event underscored the enduring legacy of their founder and the continued dedication of the sisters to their mission of service and faith.
