Think back to 1940. A small group of devout individuals met for prayer in a home on Simpson Road. Among them were Deacon Hubert A. Willis Sr. Mother Laura Willis and Mother Hattie Helen Burton. Their shared faith laid the foundation for what would become the Henry Street Church of God.
This humble beginning blossomed. In 1940 they purchased a building on Jones Avenue. Under the leadership of Elder Henry H Ingram the church saw renovation and expansion. A new sanctuary was dedicated in July 1945.
A significant merger occurred in 1946. Elder George Briley and his congregation from Westside Mission joined forces. This union strengthened the church’s ties to the Pentecostal-Holiness movement. Bishop Briley’s long and dedicated service shaped the congregation for many years.
Growth continued. A fellowship hall was added in 1955. The church began broadcasting its services on WAOK radio. Its influence spread far beyond Atlanta.
In 1971 the church moved to a new location on Avon Avenue. In 1978 it was renamed the Cathedral of Faith. It continued its growth and outreach. It supported missions around the world. The Cathedral of Faith also served the Atlanta community through various ministries.
The Cathedral of Faith Church of God in Christ continues to be a beacon of light. It serves as a cornerstone of the community. It draws hundreds to its services.
