Drawn to the south of the Chao River lies Henanzhai a town steeped in history. Henanzhai’s name literally means River South Stockade. It hints at its strategic location and past. Let’s uncover the layers of this town together.

Henanzhai is located in the Miyun District of Beijing China. In 2020 Henanzhai had a population of 24155 residents. This gives it a density of 380 people per square kilometer. The town is situated northwest of Ligu Mountain. Henanzhai shares borders with several other towns and subdistricts. These include Gulou Subdistrict Mujiayu Town and others.

Henanzhai has been part of different administrative structures over the years. From 1958 to 1961 it was Henanzhai Township within Miyun County. Then it became Henanzhai People’s Commune until 1984. It transitioned back to Henanzhai Township until 1993. Finally it became Henanzhai Town until 2015 when Miyun became a district.

Henanzhai today is divided into 31 subdivisions. There are 3 communities. There are 28 villages. These include Xin Beiqu Xin Zhongqu and Xin Xiqu communities. Pingtou Qian Jingou and Jingou are among the villages. Each has its own unique character.

Transportation is convenient in Henanzhai. The Beijing-Chengde Expressway passes through it. The Miyun-Shunyi Highway too. The Miyun railway station on the Beijing-Shenyang high-speed railway is also located in Henanzhai. This makes it easily accessible.

Henanzhai’s history is marked by its location. Being south of the Chao River it was naturally named so. Over the years Henanzhai has seen administrative changes. It has evolved from a township to a town. Today Henanzhai is a vital part of the Miyun District.
