Helstone’s most famous work is the opera Het Pand der Goden. It premiered in 1906 to positive reviews. He even took the opera to Germany France and Austria. He received several job offers but declined. He preferred to remain in Suriname. He also composed psalms a mazurka brillante and the Prinses Juliana Mars. Tragically a fire destroyed many of his early compositions. Two pianos were also lost.
