The Heimatmuseum Unterliederbach wasn’t always a museum. It began its life as a simple barn. In 1992 Mr Rumpf the then owner gifted it to the city of Frankfurt. His only condition? That the Heimat und Geschichtsverein Unterliederbach could use it.
The transformation started in 1993. It was a labour of love. Members of the society worked tirelessly. They rebuilt the roof in 1994. By 1996 they created an exhibition space upstairs. A permanent exhibition was set up on the mezzanine floor. The basement became offices and storage. A small kitchen for events was added too.
This wasn’t the end of the story. The southern gable was clad. The entrance was redesigned. The foundations were waterproofed. The beams were treated for woodworm. A heating system was installed. New windows and a staircase were added. A protective roof now shelters larger exhibits. All this was accomplished thanks to the hard work of the Verein’s members.
The museum’s facade remains unchanged. This preserves the rustic charm of the original barn. The Heimatmuseum Unterliederbach stands as a testament to community spirit. It also showcases the rich history of Unterliederbach. It’s a place where the past comes alive.
The city of Frankfurt played a vital role. In 2001 the city took over the old village scales from 1904. They restored them adding another layer to Unterliederbach’s story.
