Whispers of international understanding drift on the breeze here. We’re standing before Heidelberg International School. It’s often called H.I.S. for short. This school is more than just a place of learning. It’s a vibrant hub for globally-minded students.

Heidelberg International School began modestly. It started in 2000 in Karlsruhe. The school used rented rooms from a kindergarten. Back then, only nine students were enrolled. Imagine such a small start!

Growth demanded a change. In 2002, the school sought larger facilities. They found the Villa Heinstein in Heidelberg. The school was then renamed Heidelberg International School. The official opening was celebrated on October 2, 2002.

Enrollment steadily increased. An extension building was added in 2003 behind the villa. This created space for more classrooms and resources. A second floor was added in 2005. It provided even more classrooms.

In August 2008, H.I.S. moved into new facilities. These consisted of three interconnected buildings. They covered more than 4,000 square metres. This expansion marked a significant step in the school’s development.

Another extension followed in November 2018. This added new offices and classrooms. It also created a new staff room. A new playground was organised too. New climbing racks and a sand pit were built.
