What comes to mind when you hear the name “Hedehusene”? A house on a heath? You are right on the money. Hedehusene is a suburban town in Denmark. It’s located on the railway line between Copenhagen and Roskilde. The name Hedehusene translates to “The Heath Houses”. It originates from an inn called “The King’s Heath House” that stood here in the 17th century. This inn had a very special task. It served as a checkpoint on a private road built by King Christian IV. This road, Roskilde Kongevej, was exclusively for the royal family and those with special permission. Imagine the stories those walls could tell if they could talk! As times changed, the road opened to the public. The King’s Heath House transformed into a regular inn, catering to travelers on their journeys. Hedehusene railway station opened in 1847. It marked a turning point in the history of Hedehusene. The station, initially built for steam locomotives to refill water, played a crucial role in the town’s later development into a hub for industry and commerce. Today, Hedehusene is a thriving suburban town with a rich history. It offers a blend of modern amenities and a connection to its past.
