“A labor of love.” That is what artist Mathew Rosenblatt calls his creation, the Big Heart. Here at the Heart Rock Art, we celebrate love and art in a big way.
This ten-foot steel heart sculpture stands proudly in front of the Clark County Marriage License Bureau in downtown Las Vegas. It is a vibrant symbol of love in the Wedding Capital of the World.
The Big Heart sculpture wasn’t always here. It first appeared at the Life is Beautiful festivals in 2021 and 2022. Clark County then gave it a permanent home.
Las Vegas Councilwoman Olivia Diaz emphasized the collaboration. Community partners and local government worked together. They brought more art to public spaces. Las Vegas and Clark County promote the city as the Wedding Capital.
Clark County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya highlighted Las Vegas’ romantic history. Las Vegas has the most wedding chapels in the world. About 80 percent of marriage licenses go to tourists. The city wants to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.
Goya appreciates the partnership between the county, the city, and private enterprise. She believes promoting wedding tourism brings the community together. More couples come here when the community supports the industry. This increases the economic impact.
Councilwoman Diaz changed the rules. Chapels can now apply for redevelopment funding. They can update their buildings. “Wedding Row” banners promote wedding tourism downtown.
Mathew Rosenblatt hopes his Big Heart has a positive impact. Even a second of joy matters. He believes relationships are built step by step. Affirming and expressing love is important. Creating the sculpture and sharing it was an honor for Rosenblatt.
Each year, the county clerk’s office issues about 80000 marriage licenses. These licenses are for ceremonies across the city. Couples take photos with the Heart Rock Art. They capture memories before or after their wedding. Some even propose here. Marriage ceremonies do not take place directly in front of it.
