In 1882, a group of influential families, led by Mrs. Alexander J. Cassatt, saw a need for an exceptional boys’ school on the Main Line. This vision led to the establishment of The Haverford School. The Haverford School first opened its doors in 1884 as The Haverford College Grammar School. Situated on the grounds of Haverford College, it served as a preparatory school for boys. Initially, the school aimed to feed students into Haverford College. However, The Haverford School charted its own course, becoming independent in 1903. The Haverford School relocated across Railroad Avenue from the college. It stands today as a testament to academic rigor and a commitment to developing well-rounded individuals. The Haverford School boasts a legacy of distinguished alumni who have made their mark in various fields. From renowned sound designers like Alex Hawthorn, a graduate of the class of 2004, to accomplished folk singers like Chuck Brodsky from the class of 1978, The Haverford School’s alumni continue to inspire. Their stories are a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a lifelong love of learning. The Haverford School’s impact extends beyond individual achievements. It actively engages with the community, instilling in its students a sense of social responsibility. The Haverford School’s legacy is etched not just in the success of its alumni, but also in its enduring commitment to education, character development, and community engagement.
