In 1930, a vision took shape on the corner of Heinrich-Heine-Allee and Bolkerstraße. Right here, at Haus Ziem, the optician Gustav Ziem commissioned architect Bernhard Pfau to create a masterpiece. Haus Ziem wasn’t just another building. It was intended to be the most modern commercial structure in Düsseldorf. Completed in 1931, Haus Ziem stands as a testament to Pfau’s ingenuity. The facade, a striking blend of Muschelkalk and sandstone panels, gives the building a solid, almost cube-like appearance. Pfau’s attention to detail extended beyond the exterior. He also designed the ground floor shop, including the furniture, creating a harmonious blend of form and function. Haus Ziem represents more than just architectural prowess.
