Established in 1939, Hanyang University Seoul Campus wasn’t always the sprawling institution you see today. It began as the Dong-A Engineering Institute. This was during a time of Japanese occupation, a period of hardship and uncertainty. Yet, even then, Hanyang University, under its original name, planted the seeds of innovation. It began with a mere 630 students and 35 faculty members in the Jongno District of Seoul. Hanyang University quickly distinguished itself as Korea’s first institution to offer engineering and architecture programs. Imagine those early students, their determination fueled by the dream of rebuilding their nation through industrial advancement. The university’s founder, Dr. Kim Lyun-joon, shared this vision. He understood the vital role technology would play in Korea’s future. The Korean War brought devastation. Many of Hanyang University’s facilities were destroyed. Faculty and students were scattered. Classes were temporarily relocated to Busan. Even amidst this chaos, the university’s commitment to education remained unwavering. They trained science teachers for secondary schools, ensuring that knowledge continued to be passed on to the next generation. Today, Hanyang University Seoul Campus stands as a testament to resilience and progress. Over 3,000 international students grace its halls each year. The university boasts partnerships with 777 universities in 76 countries. This global network fosters collaboration and exchange. It enriches the academic landscape of Hanyang and the world. The Seoul campus houses 15 colleges and 60 departments. It’s a hub of research and learning. The campus also houses Hanyang Women’s University and Hanyang Cyber University, expanding its reach and impact. Hanyang University Seoul Campus embodies the spirit of “Love in Deed and Truth,” its motto. It’s a place where knowledge is pursued. Innovation is celebrated. Global connections are forged.
