Picture this. A modest building stands quietly on Branford Street in Arleta. This is Hanyang Presbyterian Church. For over four decades it served the Korean community in Los Angeles. Hanyang Presbyterian Church wasn’t just a place of worship. It was a vibrant hub. It fostered a strong sense of community. The church offered spiritual guidance and support. They addressed social and emotional needs. Hanyang Presbyterian Church was a beacon of hope.

Originally in Hollywood Hanyang moved to Arleta in 1982. It joined the Hamni Presbytery. This was part of the Synod of Southern California and Hawaii. For many years Hanyang’s motto was “Inward Education and Outward Mission”. They lived this out locally and globally. The church supported ministries in Ukraine and Nepal. They helped build a church in Myanmar. They trained leaders in countries where Christians faced persecution. They even partnered with a Presbyterian agency to help families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sadly in recent years Hanyang dwindled. The average Sunday attendance fell to just six people. In March 2027 the congregation voted to dissolve. They held their final service. Even in its decline Hanyang left a lasting legacy. It touched countless lives. It helped countless people find hope and faith. Its dedication to community is something we should all remember.

The church’s history is richer than its simple exterior suggests. It’s a testament to the resilience of faith and the power of community.
