A legacy of innovation stands before us. This is Hanta Machinery. It’s a name synonymous with road paving and maintenance equipment. But how did this Osaka-based company rise to prominence?

Hanta Machinery’s story began long before its official founding. The seeds were sown in 1868. An Englishman named Mr. E.H. Hunter established Hunter & Co. in Kobe. The company imported and assembled “Hanta Road Rollers”. These rollers gained fame as pioneering machines in Japan from the early 1900s. This lasted until the end of World War I.

Hanta Machinery Co., Ltd. was officially founded in February 1955. It succeeded the machinery department of Hanta Co., Ltd. The company resumed assembling road rollers. It also started manufacturing cement concrete paving equipment. Later, Hanta switched to asphalt paving equipment. This included asphalt sprayers and distributors.

Road pavement construction increased significantly at that time. Hanta worked hard to meet the growing demands. They developed a series of related product lines.

The oil crisis in 1973 brought drastic changes. However, Hanta successfully developed mini-asphalt pavers. They earned a good reputation in domestic and overseas markets. Hanta even achieved strong export results. They delivered mini pavers to West Germany.

In 1982, Hanta delivered many asphalt distributors to Iraq. Since then, Hanta asphalt distributors have been exported worldwide. They reached the Middle East, Southeast Asia, North Africa, and South America.

Hanta soon expanded its product line. They added deicing chemical agent spreaders. They also produced road surface milling machines. Pavement surface recycling units became part of their offerings. These products strengthened Hanta’s readiness. They could now meet various customer demands. This was especially true in road maintenance and rehabilitation.

Throughout the years, Hanta continued to innovate. In 1958, they launched the mechanized spreading chip spreader. In 1959, they introduced the first towed-type asphalt finisher in Japan.

The company expanded its facilities. In June 1966, a manufacturing plant was erected in Takeshima, Osaka. A Tokyo branch office opened in April 1968.

Hanta predicted interest in community roads. Therefore, they launched mini pavers in 1970. They launched a mini road planer in 1979. This planer had a small asphalt surface heater.

More facilities were added in the 1980s. The Tokyo branch moved in June 1984. The Utajima plants were erected in 1986 and 1987. Hanta purchased a building for its head office in 1988.

Hanta launched several new products in the 1990s. These included ultra-mini finishers and airport ground service vehicles.

In September 2000, Hanta purchased land and erected the Takeshima No. 3 plant. They continued to launch innovative products in the 2000s. These included air-pressured asphalt distributors and foamed asphalt stabilizers.

Hanta Machinery celebrated its 70th anniversary on February 3, 2025. As a specialized manufacturer of compact road machinery, they’ve led the industry. They continue striving for further growth. They aim to be the best company for society and their users.

So, the next time you’re on a smooth road, remember Hanta Machinery. Remember its history of innovation. Remember its commitment to quality. Hanta helps connect communities. They pave the way for progress.
