Have you ever imagined a place where vintage toys meet modern architectural marvels? At the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk in Anger, Germany, this dream becomes reality. The TraumWerk is the brainchild of Hans-Peter Porsche, grandson of the legendary Ferdinand Porsche. Opened in June 2015, it’s a testament to his lifelong passion for collecting. The museum’s striking figure-eight design echoes the tracks of model railways and race circuits, a fitting symbol for the treasures within. Inside the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk, a vast 2,500 square meter exhibit showcases a world-class tin toy collection. Rare Marklin pieces, including a Gauge 1 Krokodil locomotive and an array of ocean liners, stand as testaments to a bygone era of craftsmanship. Imagine a 1910 miniature swimming pool, complete with a functioning shower. This intricate toy, among many others, reflects Porsche’s appreciation for technical precision and detail. The Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk isn’t just about static displays. A massive 365 square meter model railway layout sprawls across the museum. This miniature world depicts Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, complete with 180 trains from Porsche’s personal collection. Forty trains run simultaneously on nine separate tracks, while tiny model cars navigate the landscape and skiers prepare for their descent. Even the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen is recreated with sparking welding robots. The layout’s creation was a feat of engineering, assembled from modules weighing up to 400 kilograms each. It even presented unexpected challenges, like the dryness of the room causing the wooden tracks to warp. But Porsche and his team persevered, and the result is a mesmerizing spectacle. The Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk also houses a selection of Porsche’s personal car collection, including a Porsche 904, a 356, and a 959. A well-loved silver 550 Spyder, bearing the marks of his grandchildren’s driving lessons, stands as a charming reminder of family memories. Each car tells its own story. The Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk is more than just a museum; it’s a journey through time, a celebration of craftsmanship, and a testament to the enduring power of passion. It’s a place where dreams come to life in miniature.
