Hanoi University of Science and Technology

Established in 1956, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology stands as a testament to Vietnam’s resilience and ambition. The Soviet Union aided in its construction, utilizing the grounds of a former Indochina University campus. This building became the largest in Hanoi at the time. Hanoi University of Science and Technology, or HUST, isn’t just a university; it is the culmination of dreams, the seed of countless innovations, and a symbol of Vietnam’s technological prowess. Originally named “Đại học Bách khoa Hà Nội,” meaning “Hanoi Polytechnic,” HUST stands as the nation’s first and largest technical university. The university’s motto, “Một tình yêu, Một tương lai” which translates to “One Love, One Future”, speaks to the unifying power of education and innovation. Hanoi University of Science and Technology has been instrumental in shaping Vietnam’s scientific and technological landscape. It has served as the parent institution for many other technical universities in Vietnam. These include Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, and Vietnam University of Water Resource. After the country’s unification, many HUST professors contributed their expertise to the rebuilding of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, further demonstrating HUST’s impact. HUST boasts one of the largest and most verdant campuses in Vietnam, located in Hanoi’s south center. Overlooking Reunification Park, the 26-hectare campus encompasses 200 amphitheaters, teaching rooms, halls, and conference chambers. It houses 200 laboratories, including eight national key laboratories and 20 practical workshops. The Hanoi University of Science and Technology also recognizes the importance of a balanced lifestyle. Students have access to a standard stadium, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, and an international-standard sporting event hall. This hall even hosted the South East Asia Student Sports Festival in 2006. Hanoi University of Science and Technology has fostered partnerships with 200 universities, research institutes, and companies across 32 countries. This network includes prestigious institutions like the University of Technology Sydney, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, École Polytechnique de Montréal, Tsinghua University, and Tokyo Institute of Technology. HUST has consistently ranked among the top universities in Vietnam and has received recognition in global rankings as well.
