Above the Katia River, the Hanging Bridge in Haifa’s Nesher Park sways gently. It’s a 70-meter-long steel cable marvel. This isn’t just any bridge. It’s a gateway to adventure. Nesher Park, nestled in the Carmel Mountains just outside Haifa, offers more than just a thrill. The Hanging Bridge is one of two in the park, each offering a unique perspective of the lush landscape. These bridges aren’t for the faint of heart. The slight sway as you walk across adds an element of excitement to the experience. The views from the Hanging Bridge are stunning. You can see the Katia Stream gully below, usually dry except during the winter rainy season. The surrounding slopes are covered in a thick Mediterranean woodland. Oak, terebinth, and Greek strawberry trees paint the landscape in vibrant greens. The park is a hiker’s paradise. Well-marked trails crisscross the area, offering options for both long hikes and short strolls. The bridges are easily accessible via a 10-minute walk from the car park on Hurav Street. If you’re feeling adventurous, take the longer circular hiking route. This 1-1.5 hour trek will lead you through the heart of the forest. Along the way, you’ll encounter picnic areas, scenic lookout points, and even exercise facilities. Near the parking area, a playground and picnic tables offer a perfect spot for families. For a shorter adventure, take the easy black trail. It will lead you directly to the Hanging Bridges and back in about 30 minutes. This trail is relatively easy, even suitable for baby strollers, though it is unpaved. Remember to hold on to the railing, especially at the center where the swaying is most pronounced. And be mindful of the weight limit. Each bridge can hold a maximum of fifty people. So, take a deep breath, step onto the Hanging Bridge in Nesher Park, and enjoy the thrill. This unique experience will stay with you long after you leave.
