Across the rolling hills of Schleswig-Holstein lies the quaint village of Hammoor. What secrets does this seemingly sleepy village hold? Let’s uncover them together. Hammoor, first mentioned in records in 1263, whispers tales of a rich history. Its very name echoes the noble family “van Homore” who resided here in the 14th century. Can you imagine their lives, their influence spreading across this land? Hammoor’s story doesn’t end there. The village became part of the Tremsbüttel estate, which was later sold to the Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg in 1475. A significant shift in power, wouldn’t you say? Yet another change came in 1571, when Hammoor fell under the administration of the Dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf, becoming part of the Tremsbüttel district. History continued to shape Hammoor. After Prussia annexed Schleswig-Holstein in 1867, Hammoor joined the newly formed Stormarn district. The village became part of the Bargteheide district under Prussian municipal law and later the Bargteheide-Land district in 1948. In more recent times, in 1964, the neighboring village of Gerkenfelde merged with Hammoor, adding another layer to its story. Interestingly, a school mentioned as early as 1796 closed its doors in 1966. Perhaps some of you can picture a small schoolhouse, children playing in the yard, now just a memory. Today, Hammoor stands as a testament to time, a blend of historical shifts and community spirit. The Autobahnkreuz Bargteheide, a major intersection of the A1 and A21 autobahns, lies within Hammoor, connecting the past with the present. And as you stand here, consider the quiet strength of Hammoor, a village whose story continues to unfold.
