This Gurudwara was established in 1970. It has served the community for over 55 years. GuruDwara Tikana Sahib opens its doors at 5:00 am each day. It welcomes devotees for morning prayers.
Guru Har Krishan’s story resonates here. He was the eighth Sikh Guru. Guru Har Krishan stayed in Delhi in 1664. He selflessly served people during a cholera epidemic. The Guru gave fresh water. He cured many with his blessings. He became known as “Bala Peer” for his humility.
Before becoming a Gurudwara this site was a haveli. It belonged to Mirza Raja Jai Singh. He was a Rajput ruler. Jai Singh was a general of Emperor Aurangzeb. The haveli had a special enclosure. It was called “Bangla”. Guru Har Krishan stayed there. After the Guru’s death, it became Bangla Sahib Gurudwara.
The Gurudwara has a Sarovar. This is a holy pond. Its water is believed to have healing properties. People come from far and wide. They seek solace and blessings here.
Sardar Baghel Singh renovated the Gurudwara in 1783. He also built eight other Gurudwaras in Delhi. The Gurudwara has undergone many changes. These include a golden dome and a school. It also features a kitchen. An art gallery is here too.
GuruDwara Tikana Sahib is wheelchair accessible. It ensures everyone can partake in its offerings.
