Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar stands tall. It’s one of only twelve such structures in the world with a Nishan Sahib of this impressive height. Its location is significant too. Think of it as the Sikh equivalent of Montreal’s iconic St. Joseph’s Oratory.
Over the last six years alone. Approximately 15,000 Canadians have visited this sacred space. This includes students of all ages. Professors from Quebec’s universities also visit. They come to experience the spiritual energy. The rich culture this Gurdwara embodies.
Beyond its imposing presence. Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar has a rich history of community outreach. In November 2009 it organized a remarkable Langar Sewa. This was a community kitchen event in Quebec City. Students from the Khalsa School participated. They showcased traditional Kirtan Diwan music using instruments like the Rebab Saranda Taus and Sarangi.
The Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar is not only a place for prayer and reflection. It is a center for learning. You can find Punjabi and Kirtan classes here. Children’s Kirtan Diwan sessions are offered as well. The Gurdwara actively works to preserve and transmit Sikh heritage to younger generations.
