Seven thousand nine hundred sixty-five souls once called Gugelstrasse home. That’s a lot of stories within one district. This statistical district Gugelstrasse isn’t just a collection of addresses. It’s a piece of Nuremberg’s vibrant past.

Gugelstrasse district number fifteen sits nestled within Nuremberg’s Sudstadt. The name itself whispers of history. It’s a reminder of the Gugel von Brand and Diepoltsdorf patrician family. This powerful family vanished from Nuremberg in 1804. Their legacy however lives on in the name of this district.

Much of western and northern Gugelstrasse is industrial land. Factories hummed with activity for over a century. Siemens AG still operates on land that once belonged to Schuckert & Co. They built their factories here between 1888 and 1890. These factories were known as the Zählerwerk. A second factory emerged nearby in 1895. Workers from these factories lived in the Rabus district. This area is in the southeastern part of Gugelstrasse.

The bombing raids of 1945 devastated this area. The factories and surrounding neighbourhoods were largely destroyed. The resilience of Nuremberg is apparent even in this district. Gugelstrasse rebuilt and transformed. It stands today as a testament to the city’s enduring spirit.

The boundaries of Gugelstrasse are clearly defined. The Landgrabenstrasse forms its northern border. To the east lie the Tafelfeldstrasse and Voltastrasse. The Frankenstrasse and Ulmenstrasse form the southern edge. Vogelweiherstrasse Strassburgerstrasse Singerstrasse and Heynestrasse complete the western boundary. Gugelstrasse mostly lies within the Steinbühl district. A small southern section falls within the Gibitzenhof district.

Gugelstrasse a seemingly quiet neighbourhood. It holds within its boundaries a rich tapestry of history. A story of industrial might. A story of resilience. And a story of the long-vanished Gugel family. It’s a reminder that even in the seemingly ordinary a remarkable history waits to be uncovered. This is Gugelstrasse. A district that quietly tells a compelling tale of Nuremberg itself.
