Behold, the Guanlan Interchange Mainline Bridge. It is a testament to modern engineering. This bridge isn’t just a way to get from A to B. It represents China’s ambition and innovation in infrastructure.

The Guanlan Interchange Mainline Bridge is part of a larger mega-project. This project is the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. It connects Shenzhen Airport Interchange to Ma’anshan Island in Zhongshan. Think about that distance for a moment. It stretches over 24 kilometers.

This entire link has reportedly broken ten world records. Let’s focus on a few. One record is for the longest two-way, eight-lane immersed tube tunnel. Imagine a tunnel with four lanes going in each direction. This tunnel is 5,035 meters long. It comprises 32 tube sections.

Another record is for the widest underwater steel shell-concrete immersed tube tunnel. This tunnel is incredibly wide. It measures 46 meters or 55.6 meters at its widest point. The height is 10.6 meters. This engineering marvel uses 14 robots to ensure safety. These robots can even detect fires.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has the highest navigation clearance for a sea bridge. This means large ships can easily pass underneath. The link also boasts the world’s first underwater expressway interchange and airport interchange. Travel time between the airport interchange and the island has decreased dramatically. It went from two hours to just 30 minutes.

Consider the bridge’s components. It features the widest repeatedly foldable M-shaped water stop. This is used in the final joint of the immersed tube tunnel. The width measures three meters. It also had the world’s highest wind resistance test speed for a suspension bridge. The maximum flutter test wind speed reached 83.7 meters per second.

The tunnel uses self-compacting concrete. A single tube section concrete volume reaches 29,000 cubic meters. The total volume is 910,000 cubic meters. The offshore suspension bridge anchor is also remarkable. Its concrete volume measures about 344,000 cubic meters. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has a span of 1,666 meters. This makes it the largest span for a fully offshore steel box girder suspension bridge. Finally, the steel bridge deck uses hot-mix epoxy asphalt paving. This covers an area of 378,800 square meters.

While some records are still unconfirmed, the bridge deck measures 91 meters high. As you stand here, consider the sheer scale and complexity of the Guanlan Interchange Mainline Bridge. It is more than just a bridge. It is a symbol of progress and connectivity. It shrinks distances. It connects people and places. It represents the future of transportation. Take a moment to appreciate this modern wonder.
