“All aboard!” echoes in my mind. We are standing before Guangzhou Railway Station. This station stands as a vital hub. It connects Guangzhou to the rest of China.

Guangzhou Railway Station began its life far from here. The original station was known as Dashatou train station. It was established in 1911. Dashatou was the terminus for the Kowloon-Canton Railway.

In the 1950s, leaders recognized the need for a larger station. Construction started in 1960. It faced delays due to the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution. Finally, Guangzhou Railway Station opened in 1974.

Guangzhou Railway Station is more than just a transit point. It symbolizes Guangzhou’s growth. It reflects the city’s increasing importance in China’s railway network. The station serves the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway. It also serves the Guangzhou-Maoming Railway. Trains depart for Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan.

In 1979, a significant event occurred here. After normalization of relations with Hong Kong, the through-train service resumed. This service had been suspended for over 25 years. In 1996, through-train services moved to Guangzhou East due to safety concerns.

Guangzhou Railway Station sits on Huanshi West Road in Yuexiu District. Its location is easily accessible. Metro Lines 2 and 5 converge beneath the station. Many bus lines also stop nearby. These include B2, B2A, and others.

The station is a bustling center of activity. It links travelers with wholesale markets. Yuexiu Park is a short walk away. Several bus terminals surround the station. These are the Provincial Bus Terminal and the Municipal Bus Terminal. Liuhua Bus Terminal is also close.

Below ground lies another world. The metro station spans nearly 10,000 square meters. It is one of Guangzhou’s largest. Line 2 opened in 2002. Line 5 followed in 2009.

Guangzhou Railway Station is a top-class station. It is a crucial part of Guangzhou’s transportation network. It connects the city to major destinations. These include Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The station is linked to the national express railway. This includes the Beijing-Shenyang line.

Consider the station’s future. Guangzhou plans to develop a transportation network. Guangzhou South Station will be the core hub. Inter-city railways will connect to Baiyun Airport and Nansha Port.

As you stand here, imagine the countless journeys that have begun. Guangzhou Railway Station remains a gateway. It connects people and places across China. It is a symbol of progress. It is a testament to Guangzhou’s enduring role in China’s railway history.
