Have you ever wondered about hidden gems in Bornholm’s Paradisbakkerne? Grydesø is one such treasure. This lake is a vital part of the island’s natural beauty.

Grydesø was once a brownish bog in the hills. Today, it is a nutrient-rich lake. A dense forest surrounds it. Trees even stretch out over the water in places.

The rocks above Grydesø have a washboard-like surface. This comes from the migmatite structure. It is characteristic of Paradisbakkerne.

In the beech forest south of Grydesø, you might spot Liden Singrøn. It covers the ground. This was likely planted in the early 1900s. It was part of a small development.

Back then, photographer Valdemar Myhre loved Grydesø. He used it as a subject. Many of his photos became postcards from Bornholm.

Comparing old photos to today reveals big changes. Freely exposed rocks with great views are now hidden. Forest growth has obscured them over the last 100 years.

The slopes west and north of Grydesø feature many rock blocks. These form a scree. The rare moss Schizostega, also known as Lysmos, once grew here. It is unknown if it still does.

If you look closely into the cracks, you might see the mosses glow. But do not confuse them with Lysmos itself.

From Grydesø, follow the blue square trail. After a few hundred meters, you will reach a high area. Here, a Norway spruce plantation was recently cleared.

The old Søndre Pilt road marker has reappeared. It had been hidden in a dark spruce forest.

Follow the blue route southwest of Søndre Pilt. You will find Skottedal, a ravine. It broadens into Skottedam. Above the valley lies Slingestenen. Aage V. Jensens Foundations recently bought this area.

If you take the yellow triangle trail northwest from Grydesø, you will come to Grydedal. Locals call the two water collections Pot and Pægl.

The water here is very acidic. Sphagnum moss surrounds it. In early spring, you can see Springfrø laying eggs. They lay them in the open water of this hanging bog. Grydesø and its surroundings offer a glimpse into Bornholm’s diverse landscape.
