Grundschule Glücksburger Weg

“A school built from pavilions?” a child’s voice might have questioned back in 1968. Indeed, the Grundschule Glücksburger Weg, right here before us, began its life as just that. Imagine a collection of temporary structures, 12 classrooms cobbled together, forming the Volksschule Apenrader Straße. This was the humble start of Grundschule Glücksburger Weg in September 1968, nestled in the green heart of Vahrenwald. Today, the school stands as a testament to its own resilience and growth. The original pavilions are long gone, replaced by a modern, two-story building. Those temporary classrooms made way for ten permanent learning spaces, some even boasting outdoor areas with benches for lessons in the fresh air. The Grundschule Glücksburger Weg also houses a computer lab, a workshop, a music room, an auditorium complete with a stage, and a modern sports complex. The sports complex includes a gymnasium, changing rooms, and accessible facilities. The grounds are expansive, filled with trees and shrubs. Children can explore the playground, climb on the play equipment, and engage in various sports activities. It’s a far cry from the basic setup of its early days. In 1994, the Grundschule Glücksburger Weg faced a significant challenge. Formaldehyde and mold were discovered in the aging pavilions. This led to the demolition of the temporary structures and a much-needed renovation of the assembly hall. The silver lining? This paved the way for the new building we see today, completed in February 2000. The renovations continued with upgrades to the gymnasium, administrative wing, and restrooms. The schoolyard also received a makeover, finally completed in May 2007. Today, Grundschule Glücksburger Weg welcomes approximately 230 students from diverse backgrounds. The first and fourth grades have two classes each, while the second and third grades each have three. And just next door, a daycare center with after-school care provides a convenient and supportive environment for the school community. The Grundschule Glücksburger Weg truly embodies a journey of transformation. From its provisional beginnings to the vibrant hub it is today, it continues to nurture young minds and offer a rich learning environment.
