In Buxtehude, dreams take flight at Grundschule Altkloster. Here at Grundschule Altkloster, let me tell you a story.
Grundschule Altkloster, founded in 1890, started as a Volksschule. It stands in Altkloster, a district with a rich past. In the early 1970s, it became a primary school. Grundschule Altkloster is the only one in Altkloster. Children from nearby villages like Immenbeck attend it. Buses from KVG Stade bring them here.
Around the late 1990s, new housing areas emerged. These brought more students to Grundschule Altkloster. By 2013/14, over 450 pupils attended Grundschule Altkloster. This made it Buxtehude’s largest primary school. It was also the fifth largest in Lower Saxony.
Grundschule Altkloster embraced integration early. In 1985, it started an integration class. This was with support from Lüneburg University. It made Grundschule Altkloster a pioneer in Lower Saxony. Teamwork became key. New teaching methods took root across the school.
Grundschule Altkloster became a “Verlässliche Grundschule” in 2001. This means a reliable primary school. The school provides diverse after-school activities. These activities nurture students’ talents. They also cater to their interests. Grundschule Altkloster collaborates with external partners. Offerings range from sports to choir and computer courses. Students can learn guitar or chess. They explore creative arts like pottery. They can even explore local culture through Plattdeutsch.
In 2005/06, Grundschule Altkloster became an “Offene Ganztagsschule”. This translates to an open all-day school. About 320 children attend Grundschule Altkloster. It offers care until 12:20 for younger students. Older students enjoy many afternoon clubs.
The school has a lovely dining hall or “Mensa”. Here, students in the OGS program enjoy tasty lunches. Dedicated staff organize diverse afternoon activities. Teachers supervise homework time. Care extends until 3:30 PM for registered kids. Sometimes, a late service is available.
The Schulverein, or school association, plays a vital role. Founded in 1975, it raises funds. These funds buy learning materials. The association also supports collaboration. It connects teachers, parents, and students. The Schulverein organizes after-school programs. Unlike other schools, it hires its own care staff. This makes it unique in Lower Saxony.
