The story begins on May 29th, 1955. This was Pentecost Sunday. Rev. Ron F. Tucker, of Free Church Parliament Street, sought inspiration. He needed to prepare his Sunday message.
Rev. Tucker usually prepared his sermons early in the week. He preferred Tuesdays. This allowed him to address other needs later. But this week was different. Inspiration eluded him. Tuesday passed. Wednesday followed. Still nothing.
Thursday arrived. Rev. Tucker realized his message might be a challenging one. He deeply cared for his members. Many lived far south of Delhi. They struggled to attend the entire Sunday service. Often, they only arrived for the benediction.
He knew travel was difficult. No matter how early they started, South Delhi members missed most of the service. Rev. Tucker understood their struggle. He felt a calling to help.
Finally, on June 5th, 1955, the message came. The Holy Spirit guided him. He spoke about a new church. It would be planted in South Delhi. He asked his congregation to prepare.
The members of Free Church Parliament Street embraced the challenge. They understood the need. They committed to establishing a new place of worship. This new church would serve the South Delhi community.
Green Park Free Church was born from this vision. It addressed a practical need. More importantly, it fulfilled a spiritual calling. It became a beacon of faith in Green Park.
