Time travel with me to 1909. Imagine a small group gathering. They meet in a borrowed one-room schoolhouse. It stands about a mile west of where Green Hill Church is now.
Brother Bob High leads them. For years, he is the congregation’s only leader. He leads prayers and singing. Brother High serves the Lord’s Supper. He teaches the class.
By 1920, Green Hill Church needs more space. They buy an abandoned church building nearby. This shows their growing faith. In July 1924, gas lamps replace kerosene lamps. This is progress. August 1926 brings electricity. Electric lights are installed.
In 1941, three Sunday School rooms are added. Green Hill Church is expanding. For years, baptisms happen in Cedar Creek. It’s behind Bro. Granville Goodall’s house.
Construction on the present Green Hill Church building starts in March 1950. The congregation occupies it later that year. They think it will be large enough for fifty years.
But by 1967, more space is needed. Thirteen classrooms, two dressing rooms, and a nursery are added. Green Hill Church continues to grow. In 1975, east and west wings are added to the auditorium. Seating capacity doubles.
Recent additions include a new foyer. It features a church library and office. This happened in 2000. In August 2009, construction begins on a larger fellowship area. Green Hill Church always adapts.
The Green Hill Church of Christ began meeting in 1909. Now, it is a pillar of the community. It has grown and changed over the years. The church is indebted to its predecessors. They worked hard to develop and maintain the Lord’s work here.
Green Hill Church’s history shows faith and community. It began in a small schoolhouse. It evolved into the building you see today. The church began with Brother Bob High. Now it has many leaders and members. Green Hill remains a testament to faith. It serves the community for over 100 years.
